Protecting Your Child’s Health

Currently, stems cells from umbilical cord blood are used to treat certain types of metabolic, immune, and blood disorders, in addition to cancers, illnesses, and some genetic conditions.

Preserved cord blood stem cells can not only help treat illnesses and diseases in the infant, but they can also help immediate family members as well.

Cord blood contains stem cells that are a genetic match to your infant and family. Stem cells are considered dominant cells because they can play a role in the development of all systems, organs, and tissues in the body.

These cells also have the ability to transform into other types of cells, creating new development and growth. Stem cells are the building blocks of the immune system. The cell’s ability to transform and encourage new development and growth provides doctors with the ability to treat some inherited health disorders.

Banking your child’s cord blood in our facility is a type of insurance. Ideally, you won’t ever have to access the stem cells, but in the event of a health issue, these cells act as a type of life preserver that can ultimately save the life of your child or another family member.

Banking your cord blood will provide you with much-needed peace of mind just knowing that you have this type of valuable resource whenever you need it.

The Power of Stem Cells Derived from Cord Blood

The blood from the umbilical cord contains hematopoietic cells. These cells are used in regenerative therapy, an emerging field of medicine. Diabetes, hearing loss, and cerebral palsy can be successfully treated with these cells.

Cord blood can be instantly transplanted and doesn’t cause harm or pain to the child, unlike harvesting bone marrow which is both time-consuming and painful.

Cord Blood Storage for Families from Mixed Ethnic Backgrounds

testimonials familyStoring cord blood is even more important for children from mixed ethnic backgrounds because they will have a more difficult time finding a bone marrow donor match, considering the majority of cord blood donations come from Caucasians.

Collection Process

The collection process is painless and very safe. The entire procedure will only take a few minutes. The procedure will not interfere with the delivery of your newborn and is possible with both C-section and vaginal deliveries.

In order to obtain the cord blood, your physician will use the bag method or the syringe method.

With the bag method, the umbilical cord blood is removed by elevating the umbilical cord in order to drain the blood into an awaiting bag. We use only FDA approved collection bags. These bags contain a type of anticoagulant that’s called CPD. CPD is recommended and approved by the FDA.

cord blood collection

The syringe method is similar to that of a regular blood draw for a blood test.  The blood is extracted using a syringe to draw up the blood from the umbilical cord, once the cord has been cut.

The bag or syringe is labeled using a unique number to identify your infant.

Infant umbilical cord blood can only be collected for a short window of time after birth. Fifteen minutes to be exact.

Medical Courier Service

Once the cord blood has been retrieved by your doctor, our staff will be contacted immediately. A courier will be sent to the hospital and will head straight to your hospital room to pick up the blood and rush it back to our facility where we will process it and store it. Our courier services are open twenty-four hours a day, three hundred and sixty-five days a year.

Are There any Health Risks to the Infant or Mother?

This is a common concern for new parents. However, there are absolutely no health risks related to the collection process. Because the blood is obtained from the umbilical cord only after it has been cut, it is an entirely pain-free, and safe procedure.

Saving Cord Blood for the Future

Research has barely scraped the potential of cord blood use and benefits. Cord blood research continues to advance and will potentially yield new discoveries that will offer life-saving benefits for your family. These stem cells can also be used to treat closely related adults who are suffering from certain diseases and conditions. This includes parents and siblings and in some instances aunts, uncles, and grandparents.

As you can see, banking cord blood is now more important than ever.

Our mission is to support families in the hopes that the investment you make today will become invaluable to you and your family in the future.

Preparing for the Big Day

Umbilical Cord Blood medicial conceptOur state of the art cord blood preservation system protects your investment for your family’s future.

We know that pregnancy is one of the most exciting and fulfilling times in every family’s life. During this time, you’ll have to make many important decisions regarding the future and well-being of your family.

The services we offer are designed to make cord blood banking a simple, convenient, and affordable process. We’ll make sure you’re well-prepared when the time comes to collect the cord blood and our team will even contact you around your due date to ensure all the proper paperwork and the collection kit are ready for your big day.

How Cord Blood is Processed

Caring for cord blood stem cells is a huge responsibility, and it’s one that our company takes very seriously, using the latest advances in the medical field to ensure that your infant’s cord blood is processed and stored securely in our facility.

During processing, the goal is to obtain the largest yield of pure stem cells that can be preserved for the future.

These pure stem cells can result in a faster recovery time, and fewer side effects. This is due to the type of red blood depletion technique our facility uses, a process that’s FDA approved and recommended.

The stem cells are placed in a centrifuge where they are spun in order to reduce unwanted plasma and red blood cells, in addition to other non-useful components.

In order to maximize the cord blood that is stored here, we divide the stem cells equally into five separate segments. This storage method will provide your family with the most options in the future and gives you the ability to use only a portion of the stored blood at one time.

State of the Art Storage Practices

Our facility uses the cryopreservation process to ensure that the integrity of the stem cells remains intact and pure. With cryopreservation, the stem cells are stored at very low temperatures, which allows the cells to maintain their viability. This technology will keep temperatures below the freezing point. If the stem cells are needed, we use a highly controlled thawing process that provides a higher rate of survivability upon thawing.

Quality of Service

baby cord blood banking customer serviceFrom collection to cryopreservation, the complete process is designed to maximize stem cell yield. If your child’s doctor determines that stem cell therapy is the best course of treatment, we’ll work closely with your child’s physician to plan the next course of action, immediately. We’ll also coordinate the delivery of samples for testing purposes and treatment.

Diseases Treated with Stem Cells

These stem cells are used to treat more than eighty conditions and diseases. There are also several clinical trials that study how regenerative medicine can effectively treat a wider range of conditions in the future.

Experimental treatments are currently underway using cord blood stem cells to treat a number of conditions and diseases including:

  • Alzheimer’s disease,
  • Arthritis
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Heart attack recovery
  • Stroke recovery
  • Diabetes
  • Leukemia

Am I Eligible for Cord Blood Banking?

To qualify for cord blood banking, you must register with our facility by the thirty-fourth week of pregnancy and pass a health screening test. You will then be sent a kit, which contains all the supplies needed at the time of delivery.

Cord Blood Kit

You must have the cord blood kit ready at the time of birth. The kit contains all of the supplies your doctor will need to collect the cord blood, and it’s specially designed to protect the blood during transport to our lab. The kit contains a temperature logger, collection instructions, and blood vials which contain special anti-coagulants that will prevent the blood from clotting during transport.

The kit must be safeguarded until the birth and should not be stored in freezing temperatures, in the fridge or kept in direct sunlight.

Client Testimonials

Here is some Important feedback from a few of our satisfied clients:

stem cells

 Renee Johnson

Our daughter Renee was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of four. Our daughter’s doctor told us that the best course of treatment for Renee was a stem cell transplant. Fortunately, a family friend referred me to this company when I was pregnant with Renee and we signed up for service during my third trimester. I can’t say enough positive things about this company’s service, how they went out of their way to make sure our doctors got what they needed, and how willing they were to work with our doctor’s medical team. They are truly a blessing and thanks to their service, our daughter has been in remission for two years and is your average, hyper, happy six-year-old.

Olivia Skillman

Olivia was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a common childhood cancer, when she was just two years old. During that first year, she had to go through several rounds of chemo. While the chemo destroyed the cancer cells, it also killed normal cells at the same time. Fortunately, we had decided to bank her cord blood, which was stored immediately after she was born. The stem cells from the cord blood were infused back into her body after her last round of chemo three years ago. Today, Olivia is leading a normal life. She made a fast recovery just two months after treatment. This facility truly saved my daughter’s life and I will be forever grateful.

-Linda Skillman, Portland, Oregon

Josh Martinez

As a result of an accident at birth two years ago, our son was deprived of oxygen to his brain, which resulted in cerebral palsy. He was diagnosed at eighteen months. Josh suffered from several seizures a day and painful, involuntary movements. Our son’s neurosurgeon recommended stem cell therapy. The process would involve fusing Josh with cord blood, which we had stored at this facility after he was born. Over the past several months we have noticed a huge improvement in his motor control, a reduction in seizures, and an overall improvement in his quality of life.
